RobCam, the AI Pest Detector and Counter
The application of RobCams has successfully helped customers overcome severe issues with whitefly and thrips populations, vastly reducing their numbers, to biologically controllable levels.
RobCam, (also) the AI Beneficals Detector and Counter
The RobCam is also a facilitator of biological control: Not only can it robustly detect and count small pests like thrips and whiteflies, it can also robustly count and detect small beneficials like encarsia formosa, telling it apart from debris. This enables true biological control. Actual image from installed RobCam.
Case study 2
Thrips inflight
The customer lost produce worth approx. 10000€ due to thrips in one greenhouse complex, which corresponds to the costs of having RobCams running consecutively for approximately 6 years in that instance. Having now installed 10 RobCams in the complex, the customer is ready for the upcoming Pontisetta/whiteflies Christmas season, and will start saving money straight away, as similar losses will, with the early detection by the RobCams, not occur.

Case study 3
Whiteflies 'hidden by' cicadas
A customer of ours and their crop advisor jointly failed to note that
alongside cicada a high number of whiteflies also occurred on the catch plates. This allowed the whiteflies to grow to unsustainable levels.
Because of the detection with RobCams, the whitefly attack was discovered and the customer could intervene before the products finished the growing stage. Robtelli received a 'thank you!' mail from the grower.

General description
So, what's so special about the RobCam detector?
Our internationally Patent Applied For, LED equipped RobCam illuminates the adhesive catch plates (commercial dry-glue), attracting pests faster than traditional passive catch plates, for earliest possible detection. Given its compact size and weight of 1.7 kg you can, for example, position the RobCam right next to the plants for earliest possible detection. The footprint accommodates placement within pot plant matrices. You can place the RobCam on iron poles with our magnet foot.
The RobCam is available in two configurations:
1) Battery powered for highest possible flexibility of placement, needing recharge once per month
2) 220V version for no charging needs.
The RobCam is modular so any can be configured in any of the two configurations.
What can the RobCam detect?
Currently, we provide our customers with detections and counts of aphids, whiteflies, diglyphus, leaf-miner flies, aphidius colemani, encarsia formosa, cikada and thrips. More species are continuously being added. Because of the way our AI is designed, we only need a few samples of new species to start robust detection. Therefore, if you have special detection needs, we can quickly accommodate you. The RobCam works with pheromones, as well.
What is needed for the RobCam to work?
The RobCam uses WIFI to upload its high resolution images to our cloud server. Therefore, stable WIFI at good signal power is required. Technically speaking better than -70 dbm, standard WPA2-Personal, 2.4GHz. This can be installed very economically. The RobCam continuously monitors connection quality. If you do not already have sufficient WIFI installation, Robtelli can suggest an economical solution for you.
What about detection quality?
The RobCam offers a resolution of more than 25K pixels per square mm. This is equivalent of applying a 750MP camera to capture the catch surface. That way, even the finest nuances can be send to our proprietary AI for superior results. We developed our AI especially with the real world situation in mind: The catch plates will see at least some debris, sitting so close to the actual plants. Thus, we developed for robustness of prediction under such circumstances.
How many RobCams will I need?
After installing an initial batch of RobCams you will, with data from the detectors in hand, be able to determine your exact needs. A sensible starting point: 10 RobCams per ha (1 ha = 10K m2). The relatively low number needed is because the RobCam can be placed directly amongst the plants, since it is battery driven.
How are the insects detected?
The catch plates are regularly illuminated by LED light, in order to further attract the insects. Our proprietary AI ensures recognition and robust counting of the collected insects. We are filing patent applications for our AI system, as well, which allows us to find virtually all critical pests and allows for earliest possible detection.
What is the physical size of the RobCam?
The RobCam has outer dimensions of approx. 14 cm x 28 cm x 34 cm (w x l x h, standard foot
lowest setting), with a standard foot of diameter 14 cm (we do offer various alternative placement and mounting solutions, including a low foot design with total height 26 cm) for easy positioning directly amongst the produce. One standard foot of the RobCam is telescopic such that you can adjust the vertical position of the catch plates. Another foot is magnetic and it built for positioning of the RobCam on steel bars. The weight of the complete unit is approx. 1.7 kg. incl. standard battery.
Is the RobCam future proof?
The RobCam possesses sufficient compute power to handle significant local computations and communications with external devices. The main PCB is also connectible to external devices, should such needs arise.
Presentation of your data
You get your own web pages with status overview of your RobCam detectors. Green? No action needed!
This is customizable and depends on your needs. You simply visit your Robtelli-powered web page whenever you need an overview of the detection results. You can have multiple updates of your web page per day, for instance in the high season, if so needed.
For each detector you can see the current 'action' for each type of pest/beneficial animal.
This way, you can at a glace estimate if the area covered by the detector is 'under attack', and how severe the 'invasion' is.
Graphing the individual detectors - what has happened over time?
Graphing the individual detectors - what has happened over time?
The output of our AI is available in csv format files and can be pushed to your server. This may be the absolute number of insects detected, or the confirmed deltas, depending on your needs.
The output is currently being integrated into the Auxin, Royal Brinkman portal to manage and control data.
